Doodi Taal Trek

The 4 day trek from Sangam Chatti to Dodital and further to Dwara is a classic Himalayan trail, taking you through primal forests, past lush green medows and over high mountain passes. This is a wonderful trip for anyone with a strong sense of adventure and love of the wild outdoors.

Dodital is a freshwater lake in Uttarakhand, India, situated at a height of 3,024 metres (9,921 ft). To reach Dodital, one may reach Uttarkashi by road and then walk to Dodital here via Bebra and other minor villages alongside the Ganges river. From Uttarkashi, a short jeep ride will take you to Sangamchatti from where the 21 km trek to Dodital begins. This is a mostly gentle trek, with overnight halt options at the village of Agora or Bebra. At Agora, which is 7 km from Sangamchatti. From there one can start the second leg of the trek the next day which will take you to Dodital via the small village of Manjhi.

According to one of the popular legends Lord Ganesha chose this place as his abode. There is a temple devoted to Lord Ganesha here. Another name for this lake is ‘Dhundital’ meaning Ganesh ka tal or lake of Ganesha.

Itinerary
  • Day 1: DEHRADUN TO KAPHNOL/SANGAM CHATTI
    After breakfast we flag start our trip. We quickly stop on the way for taking some beautiful pictures of the valley as well as of the locals. Today is an early start and we drive through some stunning scenery of the Himalayas. Our route today takes into the lower alpine slopes of the Greater Himalayan Range. As we drive along the banks of rivers we pass through many colourful towns and villages After lunch we head directly to over base camp site at Sangam Chatti through Zigzag Ganges Valley.

  • Day 2: SANGAM CHATTI TO BEBRA
    Today is the day when the actual trek start. From Village Sangam Chatti we will start our trek, on the trek we see the beautiful pine forest carpet of grass. After breakfast we will get a brief orientation and insight into culture, history, religion etc. After this we travel to the highlands of the left bank plateau for altitude acclimatization. We quickly stop on the way for taking some beautiful pictures of the valley .
    • We start early today and take it nice and slow as it’s the first day of trekking.
    • The panoramic views from the top are stunning and provide an almost 360 degree view.

  • Day 3: BEBRA TO DODITAL
    Today we strike out for the panoramic Dodital Lake. Situated at an altitude of 3024 m from sea level, north of Uttarkashi and surrounded by dense woods of oak, pine, deodar and rhododendrons. The amazing lake is full of rare fishes and the Himalayan Golden Trouts (Dodi).

  • Day 4: DODITAL - DARWA TOP - BEBRA
    This is a demanding day as we continue up the switch back path to top, a short walk further will take you to the top of the ridge where you will be rewarded by impressive close up views of Darwa Top. We will return back to our camp at Bhevra with sweet memories of the trek, The lake Dodital and the beauty of it. The great memories of the place will have impact on our mind for years to come.

  • Day 5: BEBRA TO SANGAM CHATTI
    We continue to trek through the Himalayan forest noticing the changing vegetation as we lose altitude down to the village of Bebra

  • Day 6: SANGAM CHATTI TO DEHRADUN
    On our final day we have a long drive back home, but this is not monotonous, as we pass through colorful villages and great scenery.
